Book Reports (150-151)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to Tattered Cover's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

Matched, by Ally Condie ***** I LOVED this book! It reminded me of the edge of a bay or ocean in the early morning hours, where everything is peaceful and serene on the surface, but when you look beneath, life teems and swirls and it's a whole different world. The book starts out with a look at the surface, but right away, the reader senses there's so much more -- and wow, what a great 'more' it is! I liked Cassia and her courage and curiosity; I liked Xander with his sweetness and determination; and of course, I loved Ky. I cannot wait to read the next one (there will be a next one, right??). The story: Cassia is going to be matched to her perfect match -- the one boy whom Society has deemed her perfect mate, the perfect husband, and the perfect future father to their perfect children. She's surprised (and a tad disappointed, at first) when the face flashed on the screen is her best friend -- that never happens in their Society. But after the shock, Cassia realizes it truly is right, for she and Xander are a perfect fit. Later, in the quiet of her home, Cassia looks at the recorded information about Xander, but to her surprise, another face appears as her match -- Ky. She knows him, as well...and now, Cassia's life can no longer skim the surface of the Society, and Cassia discovers what it really means to live -- and to love (with consequences which extend throughout their world). (YA dystopic, released 11/10, publisher: Dutton)

CJ's Fate, by Kay Hooper **** I liked this fine, though it's very fluffy. But I was in the mood for a fluffy read, so it fit. I've read many of Hooper's paranormal FBI stories (and like many of them), but this is the first straight romance I've read by her. I'm not a huge fan of straight romance, but it was fun and a very quick read. I don't know that I'd read it again, but if you want a feel-good read (with a nice setting -- Aspen in the wintertime), this could work. The story: CJ travels to Aspen for one of her friends' wedding. Tired of the constant attempts at matchmaking, she decides to play a trick on her friends and grabs a random man (staying at the same lodge) and pretends he's her lover. But when the man decides he likes that idea, CJ finds herself fighting his matchmaking attempts, as well. (Adult romance, released 8/07, publisher: Bantam)

Currently Reading: ?? (I'm trying to decide -- my brain is on overload, so it'll probably be something else fluffy.)
On Deck: The Boyfriend List, Tyger, Tyger, I Was a Teenage Popsicle

Since you loved MATCHED, make sure you read DELIRIUM by Lauren Oliver coming out in March I believe? They start out sort of similar, but DELIRIUM is much more action packed, and in the end, I loved D even more than MATCHED.
