Snow day...

...and the kiddos have to add an extra day at the end of the year (which is pretty ridiculous, don't you think?) We're not even supposed to reach zero today, and there's a definite chill anytime we sit down and aren't moving. The kitty is going crazy. He wants to be outside desperately, but the cold is thwarting him. So he's pacing and biting and meowing -- and driving me crazy!

I'm so thankful for heat and shelter today. We heard they've set up some kind of emergency shelter for the homeless -- and they were going to go around and try and gather those up who might be too 'under the influence' of something to notice that they were slowly freezing to death. I'm hoping for safety for every one of the people who are without regular shelter today!

I know there are places where this is the norm for all of winter -- I'm so not a cold weather person. I can't imagine dealing with this level of chill for months at a time. I could much easier live in extreme heat than this! But for a day or two, I will survive :)

There was a winter when I was in college where we had ten days in a row at below-zero temps. We lived in an apartment with a sliding glass door for our entrance, and we had to use our hair dryers every morning to thaw the ice enough to get it open. All of us wore tons of layers, and we'd walk to school like mummies and then put our many layers in a locker. Funny how we didn't think twice about it. DH doesn't even remember it that well, because he was up skiing! (And who would ski in those kinds of temps, anyway??) (Um, he's NOT skiing today.)

Anyway, hope you're warm and cozy and having a good Tuesday!

That's impressive :) I've never been able to do that conversion in my head, either. It's definitely COLD!

Yep, -17C. *dies* It's that cold up here, too. But--NO SNOW!! The sun is SHINING! I'm freezing, but at least my brain is starting to wake up.

Stay warm down there!!

We were cloudy with light snow, but nothing substantial. And now they've canceled school for tomorrow too (because wind chill tonight will be -30 -- ack!).

I'm up because after the two cell phone calls and one call to the land line (not to mention the four e-mails), I know that school has been canceled today due to temperature. It's -20F--real temperature, not windchill. Brr!! At least on a snow day, the kids get to go outside and enjoy it. A little hard when they're out for just plain cold. Good luck to you all in the entertainment department today...

Argh! I hate those early morning calls -- thankfully, we got the news around dinner time. And our pipes froze, but DH used a hair dryer to thaw them, and it looks like they're okay now. Yeesh...

As for entertainment, I think I'm going to get a little break to meet Cynthia Lord for a bit -- she came into town for school visits before they closed the schools!

Oh, that sounds fun! Say hi for me (if you haven't seen her already). Sad that her school visit was canceled, though.

I can't believe how much snow and ice some places are getting!

It's sunny and 38 here right now, and as my older son and I watched GMA this morning before he headed off to school, I know he was wishing we lived somewhere that was getting a snow day today. :)

Have fun!!

I have mixed feelings about the snow day. While on one hand I think, yeah, this is Colorado, we should be able to deal. On the other, I do know some kids at our school don't have proper winter clothing and they have to walk to school.

But on my biggest hand of all - I don't have to work today, so, YAY!

Or tomorrow, right? (Except, are you in DPS? I know they have school tomorrow...)

They canceled Jeffco because of the cold -- and they're right. My kids don't have the understanding of this kind of cold, and E bothered me a number of times wanting to play outside. Sorry, kiddo, it's not happening!

I'm hunkered down with the cats and praying we don't lose power.

Oh -- I'm joining you in that prayer! I definitely don't want you losing power in this!
