Thursday Thoughts...

Thankfully, the snow did come.

sun on hills
snow on leaves

I'm relieved because the weather (barometer) was messing with poor D, and he was miserable. Two afternoons in a row with him crying out of frustration and unable to think rationally. He puts all this pressure on himself, and everything he does is colored by his view of himself as a failure. *sigh* We got through it, but it's always tough to see. Plus, he kind of sleep-walked (he sat up and started talking loudly to us, making no sense).

Sleep is getting better. Last night, I got close to 8 hours -- unheard of, really. I'm still a little out of it. I suspect it will take a number of decent nights of sleep before I'm back to 'normal' (whatever that is, hehe).

The police supposedly found the person who took and killed the 10-year old girl...sadly, the person in custody is a teenager (only 17). :( He lived in her neighborhood, and chances are good that he at least knew of her (and she probably recognized him). The boy confessed to him mom (or so the story goes), and she called the police. The whole situation is sad.

On a brighter note, things are going well at school. Our new principal is really working to tackle the tough issues, and I feel like we're aimed in a good direction (and that she'll follow through). D and two of his classmates will be starting a new math program soon (pre-Algebra!?!), and I think that will be good for all three of them. And the whole school is moving into a new venture with writing -- something desperately needed in public schools around the country, imo. It seems like a solid plan, and I'm hopeful that it will help. (Of course, the biggest challenge will be teaching the teachers how to teach writing...ha.)

Well, I imagine the snow will be mostly melted by this afternoon. Even though it's supposed to be cold today, the sun is breaking through, and our snow never lasts long once the sun hits it.

Happy day to you! :) Any changes (weather or otherwise)?

School: The big trend du jour here are so-called STEM programs ... Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. English, literature and writing ... whom needs that stuff?

There was another missing 12 yo girl in NJ. Another tragic ending with the 17 yo boy being turned in by his mom. He wanted her BMX bike. Seems to be a rash of bad news.

Hope the weather stays nice for a couple days...going to Mystic CT for a couple days and will be staying here http://www.whalersinnmystic.com/

and visiting http://www.mysticseaport.org/

and of course there is the hurricane on its way ... lol

Oh, I hope your trip works out -- looks gorgeous (but I can see how it wouldn't be with a hurricane blowing through).

There's a STEM program at our local jr high...it would actually be a good fit for D ;) However, he wants to be an author right now, but he enjoys the math portion so much more.

Wow, snow!
And it's so interesting about D and barometric pressure. My husband is just discovering how that affects him as well. Are there things that help with the change?

We haven't found anything which helps so far (sadly) -- I'll keep you posted, though. I hope your husband finds something too!

Ooh, I love the photo of the sun coming up over the snow! We got dumped on, too. In fact, it's still snowing very heavily. I had to shovel the driveway for the school kids that wait there for the bus, but it's all undone now. I'm thinking the overdue bill on the library movies might just be worth it...

Yeah, I'd just stay home and drink something warm and chocolate-y :) (The sun never did take hold today...it was grey and cold.)

Love the first photo! (Although not what it represents. Ha!) It looks almost like a painting.

Hehe...it's the sun hitting the foothills. I took it from the street (using zoom, of course). I liked all the snowy trees too.

Why do humans do such horrible things to one another? Not even animals have the capacity for such cruelty.

I know :( It's very sad...
