Tolle Tuesday...

Humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. … If the structures of the human mind remain unchanged, we will always end up re-creating the same world, the same evils, the same dysfunction.

I haven't posted about the pain in CT. I think, like many people, I'm still in a bit of shock. But I think my strongest reaction (other than grief) is somehow in line with the above statement. There are so many arguments right now about this versus that (both in gun control issues and mental health issues) -- and I certainly don't have any answers. But I do feel like something needs to change. The thing is, it's not the issues themselves that are the source -- the source is deeper than that, and if we as a people can't find that deeper, underlying cause, changing issues probably won't help a whole lot.

So my prayers and thoughts go to those who are personally affected -- and to the rest of us, who are reeling in other ways at this huge loss to the world.

Blessings to you all this Tuesday, one week before Christmas (which is often meant to be a holiday of Light and Life and Hope and Love).

I keep trying to come up with a short, succinct comment to this, because I've been thinking a lot about it, too. But I couldn't. So I wrote a blog post about it. I agree--while changing some (all?) of those outer things will help, what will help most is if people change from the inside. And while it's easy to come up with ways to do that, it's actually hard to change attitudes and behaviors, even when you want to! But I think all we can do is try and just keep trying...

It feels like we (as a society) are on the verge of something important -- but I don't know if we'll make it through or not :(
