Top Eleven Reads of 2012! Number Five...

It's hard to believe it's the end of 2012 -- which means it's time for another list of books from yours truly. ;) I would've only done the top ten, except that I only have eleven five-star reads this year -- so I will highlight them all. It's always challenging to put this in any kind of order, and I want to point out that it's rather subjective (on top of already being a subjective list), as the way I feel about these books right now is different than I might have felt three months ago. Plus, the top eight are clumped so closely together in my mind (in terms of enjoyment) that they're almost random in their order -- you could simply say that I loved all eleven, and I adored the top eight pretty much equally! (All the covers link to their Tattered Cover book page, fyi.)

That said, let's move to number Five (out of 111 books read this year):

Spark, by Brigid Kemmerer
Why did this stay with me? First, it's one of the series I mentioned yesterday where each book has its own arc, but all of them together make one giant arc (at least, I'm assuming that will happen -- this is book two). Second, I like the characters. The stories center around a family of boys; the first book was about the youngest boy (and his eventual girlfriend). This one was about one of two twins (they're in the middle of the pack). All the boys are sympathetic, though they all have some issues ;). Third, the romance is always good and tension-filled. Fourth, I like the paranormal elements and how we're learning a little more about their world in each installment. These are *compelling* stories, and they suck me in from the very beginning and keep me reading feverishly to find out what will happen next. Another highly recommended book (though be aware of the high angst factor too -- happy ending but a lot of angst to get there).
