All of our friends and my parents have called to be sure we're safe -- which we are...now. Since I took that picture, the wind shifted back to the south (blowing toward the south), and it even rained for a while. Not hard, but I'm sure every bit of moisture helps. Now I can't smell the smoke anymore, and that orange line you can see in the picture is gone. No more flames on this side of the mountain. We weren't even evacuated, though the houses further up the hill were.
Three hours ago, they thought this was contained. It was far from the houses, and the smoke was dissapating. But then, the winds came up -- in the meantime, DH went on a mountain bike ride...and they wouldn't let him back into the neighborhood. He's home now, and it looks to be contained. For just a couple of hours there, I knew what it felt like to be a S. Californian...yikes!
