One of the reasons I write is because I find people so fascinating. Nothing is every simple with people, you know? They do this, they do that -- but their motives are so varied. To me, writing is a tool I can use to delve into the mystery of humanity's soul (to sound very literary, I suppose). I think YA appeals to me most because teens' motives are simpler than adults' -- usually -- and easier to point out, perhaps? I guess 'simpler' isn't a good word -- less complex. And I think that's because teens haven't had as many years to develop the many different voices the rest of us hear when we try to make decisions.
How about you? What do you enjoy about characters and bringing them to life?
