For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read.
* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite!
Must Love Black, by Kelly McClymer ***+ This was a cute story, and I found the characters likable. One thing which seems to be a trend is the lack of satisfying resolution in the romantic arc. I mean, there is a resolution, but there's no climax to the romantic tension/angst throughout the story -- not enough for me, at least.
The Gabriel Hounds, by Mary Stewart (R) **** I don't reread this one every year, but the mood and background of Dar Ibraham always sucks me in.
Vampire Academy, by Richelle Mead *** I'm going to try the next one in the series -- this one was okay, but I'm not in love with some of the characters...however, it's intriguing enough for me to go on.
Walk of the Spirits, by Richie Cusick ****+ I really liked the characters here -- and I hope she writes a sequel! I actually looked up her website to see if one was in the works (it is). Very intriguing!
The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, by Lauren Willig ****+ What a fun romp! Check out kellyrfineman for some great reviews, not only of this book (the first in the series), but of the others (we're all waiting for the last one to come out). If you like Jane Austen, The Scarlet Pimpernel (which is one of my favorite books), romance and clever dialogue, you're going to love this! (some sex -- it's for adults)
