Book Reports (89-92) and Star Trek...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite!

North of Beautiful, by Justina Chen Headley ***** I really liked this book -- I love how Terra overcomes so much throughout the story, and I definitely love Jacob. Some painful topics in here, but I think they're handled extremely well. I'll most likely buy this (as I gave away my ARC, hehe).

Gravity, by Leanne Lieberman ***+ It's interesting that I read these two books back to back -- in many ways, the character arcs are quite similar. For me, this one didn't quite have the clarity and impact of resolution of the other, but it's still good, I'd say.

going too far, by Jennifer Echols ***+ Interesting book here too. I liked the male love interest (john) the most. For me, the balance between subtlety and revelation never quite gelled -- it always seemed too far on one side or the other, BUT I have to say that John, especially, has stayed with me since I finished.

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, by Beth Fantaskey ****+ I loved the first 2/3 of this book -- mostly because of Lucius and his seriously sarcastic outlook. He cracked me up, and I laughed out loud, even in the gym ;) The last third took a drastically serious turn, and although I was still very caught up in the story, I didn't love it as much. I can't think of anything I'd do differently, it simply ended in a way that didn't match the opening (for me, at least). Still, a good read, and one I'll probably read again.

Okay, now for Star Trek -- it's a must-see, in my opinion (if you like science fiction at all). I loved the plot, loved the characters, loved, loved, loved everything about it! We're already planning to see it again once it goes to the cheap theaters ;). Oh, and although I'm not listing any spoilers, a certain relationship in this movie was one of my very favorite aspects (I bet everyone who sees it will know what I mean). Excellent movie!
