High School meme...

Snagged from lillpluta (where I saw it first):

I went to Pomona High School...and around here, all of us Arvada kids are tainted;) Seriously, if someone finds out we're from Arvada, we get these funny looks...but I thought PHS was fun! Nowadays they've completely rebuilt the school and it looks almost nothing like it used to (sigh) -- and they've built two more nearby, so PHS has become the poorest school in that area when, in my day, it was typical middle class (though we were broke).

1. Can you sing the fight song?

Did we have a fight song? Like Lill, I remember the "We're the Panthers, the mighty, mighty Panthers. Wherever we go, people want to know, who we are...we're the Panthers" -- ad infinitum.

2. Who was your favorite teacher?

Mrs. Vandaveer, the choir teacher; and Mr. Natale, the physics teacher (he even drove out to my best friend's house at 10:30 at night to fix the telescope we'd taken from school -- on assignment, not stolen -- when we, um...well, broke it). He was also the runner up when Christa McAuliff (spelling?) got to go up in the shuttle...the school was pretty shaken when we realized he would have been killed -- as was he!

3. What was your mascot, school colors?

Panthers, red, black, and gray.

4. Did you go to the Prom?

Junior year, the guy I liked (a senior) was rumored to be going to ask me...but he didn't. His friends told me he was asked by a girl from his church and couldn't say no (they also regularly came up to me at lunch and told me how miserable he was because he went with someone else. Yeah, whatever). Instead I went and saw a movie with two of my girlfriends -- and probably had a much better time ;).

Senior year, yes. I went with a junior, a head-banger, actually. We'd just started dating when I asked him -- he was in show choir with me, and his older brother was one of my best friends. I broke up with my original date (oops -- I didn't know what I was doing) because I wanted to go with R instead. The head-banger and I broke up pretty much as soon as college started for me.

5. If you could go back, would you?

Would anyone? I suppose if I could go back briefly, knowing everything I know now...nope. Still wouldn't do it!

6. What do you remember most about graduation?

It was outdoors and quite warm (like hot); I wore sandals that gave me blisters when my feet swelled; I went to two graduation parties (my only two parties throughout all of high school -- I wasn't a partier, obviously), and I remember wondering how all the other kids had done it all three years (because of the rampant drunkenness -- 18 was still legal in those days, and most kids started at 16). I couldn't stand being around drunk people!

7. Where were you on Senior Skip Day?

Well, basically school was cancelled on that day, so I and a bunch of my friends (juniors too) went to Elitches, the local amusement park. I think my brother (a sophomore) went too ;)

8. Did you have a job your senior year?

No. My parents didn't want me working while I was in school. They preferred that we focus on our education (which is kind of funny looking back, because I never had homework). I started working the summer after graduation (for my dad, hehe) -- and then had a part-time job throughout college to help pay for tuition.

9. Where did you go most often for lunch?

The cafeteria. WE had an open campus, but I didn't have a car and my parents didn't want me riding with other teens. (I did break this rule a few times, but I tried to save it for emergencies -- or when I really couldn't stand to walk home, hehe).
