Book Reports (28-32)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and will read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good.
***** I read every word, and I loved it!

Need, by Carrie Jones ****+ Yay, I finally got to finish this -- and I loved it! The story was good, but my favorite part was the MC, who reminds me so much of Carrie, herself, that I couldn't stop grinning throughout the book. Very lovable :D carriejones

Waiting to Score, by J.E. MacLeod (otherwise known as jgurtler ****+ I've been lucky enough to read a couple of Janet's other books (pre-published), so I already knew that I love her style. This book is no exception -- great voice, strong characterization, good story. (upper YA; releases this month!)

The Fetch, by Laura Whitcomb ** Caveat: If you like Russian history and you like paranormals, this is very much a book for you. It's well-written, without a doubt -- for me, however, it wasn't the right topic. (YA, releases this month)

Say the Word, by Jeannine Garsee *** This contemporary YA has many twists and turns...and the dad is a tough character to love. The MC is a strong character, though, and I enjoyed seeing how she gained courage and fire throughout the book. (releases 3/09, upper YA)

after the moment, by Garret Freymann-Weyr ** I knew when I picked this up at ALA that it probably wasn't going to be my type of book. Freymann-Weyr is a Printz winner, and I know that generally means edgy. This is definitely edgy and more literary. Tough subject matter, and realistic (or not-so-hopeful) outcome. (releases spring, 2009; upper YA)

The last three will be part of the contest this Friday, btw.
