Book Reports (52-57)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and will read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good.
***** I read every word, and I loved it!

The Demon's Lexicon, by Sarah Rees Brennan ***** Yep, this totally lives up to all the buzz. It's dark, intriguing, thoughtful -- just plain GOOD. (upper YA, releases 5/09)

Kiss of Life, by Daniel Waters * Caveat: I'm not a huge urban fantasy person, but I can enjoy faeries and magic. I kind of knew going into this one that it wouldn't be my thing (zombies) -- and it's not. I imagine those who really like urban fantasy will like this, however. (YA, releases 5/09)

Prada & Prejudice, by Mady Hubbard **** This is fun and light and sweet (though the MC is feisty). I enjoyed it, though I would love to know a bit more about what happened to those in the past (because I like everything tied up in a neat little bow, hehe). (YA, releases 6/09)

The King's Rose, by Alisa M. Libby *** Interesting look at history through the eyes of a character whose fate we already know. I thought seeing the world at that time through Catherine's eyes was intriguing. Definitely an upper YA, imo (because of the topics). (upper YA, releases this month)

Immortal, by Gillian Shields *** Hm...this seemed very much like Libba Bray's books (though it's set in contemporary times). For Bray's fans, I imagine this will be quite popular. (YA, releases 5/09)

Ghost Huntress: The Awakening, by Marley Gibson ** There's a TV show with Jennifer Love Hewitt (which I've never watched) -- but from the commercials, this book seems similar. I think the show is quite popular, so I imagine this will be, as well; it's just not my thing (I like my fantasy to be completely unrealistic, I think, heh). (YA, releases 5/09)
