Book Reports (108-112)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite!

Shadow Kiss, Richelle Mead ** I think this just isn't my type of book -- I tried the first one in the series, and although it's an interesting premise for vampires, it's just not for me. I can see how those who like vampires would like the unique take on it, though.

Stolen Children, Peg Kehret ***+ This was an interesting book. I'd call it a 'tween' suspense, as the characters seemed very young to me (the main character is 14, but she came across younger through 3rd person POV). Although a little predictable, it's still good, imo.

prey, by Lurlene McDaniel ***+ Creepy story, without a doubt. I think the author did a good job making it realistic and giving some strong motivations about why this could happen (a female teacher seducing a male student).

The School for Dangerous Girls, by Eliot Schrefer *** This is an interesting idea, but I had a hard time suspending my disbelief -- perhaps because I don't want to think that adults could do this to kids (including parents). The idea of kids being sent away from home to a basic prison (with physical punishments included) bugs me (because they're not given a trial or anything -- just sent off at their parents' wishes). I almost found it overdramatic. I'd be interested to know how teens react, in all honesty.

HP 4, by JKR (R) ***** Yep, it's time for the bi-annual rereads before the movie comes out :)

And look, Megan (megancrewe), I added your website :)
