Book Reports (8-9)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to the Powell's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

David Inside Out, by Lee Bantle ***+ This is a very interesting book, though it's painfully real, in places. David is beginning to suspect he's gay, and the implications of that discovery extend beyond only him as he finds a boy who seems to like him in return, but who doesn't want to reveal he's gay, as well. The author mentions that he wrote this book to support boys out there who might be experiencing what he experienced as a teen -- and it's not a romanticized version of young love, but the more painful reality. I'd definitely recommend this for any teen who suspects they might be gay.

Captivate, by Carrie Jones carriejones ****+ I really enjoyed this. Again, Zara is so real and sympathetic, and the painful choice she faces near the end of the book is heartbreaking. I was completely captivated (pun intended) by the entire story -- if you liked Need, you're going to love this sequel (and not be able to wait for the next one...which is coming, when? Tomorrow? :D). The pixies are back, and Zara is realizing that some of their earlier decisions about them might not have been the wisest or most compassionate -- but what will she have to sacrifice in order to right things? (YA urban fantasy, OUT NOW!)
