Book Reports (76-78)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to the Powell's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

Princess for Hire, by Lindsey Leavitt lindsey_leavitt ***+ Very clever concept and cute story -- I bet this is pretty popular with tweens right now! The story: Desi is asked to join an organization who sets up girls with princesses -- as their 'subs'. With a floating bubble for travel and special 'rouge' to transform Desi into the girl she's supposed to play, Desi discovers a whole new world...that isn't as fun and glittery as she'd hoped. (tween, new out this year)

Fallen, by Lauren Kate **** I found this pretty intriguing, though it irritated me how everyone kept the truth from the MC -- for me, their reasons weren't very believable, and by the end, I was pretty frustrated. However, I'll definitely be looking for the next book to find out what's going on (as it's a strong mystery). The story: Luce is sent to a reform school after a freak accident for which she's given the blame and there discovers a boy who won't leave her alone and another she can't seem to get her mind (and emotions) away from -- and somehow, all this involves an age-old cycle. (YA paranormal/urban fantasy)

Beautiful Dead, by Eden Maguire **** This had a haunting (um, pun intended?) feel to it which stayed with me long after I put it down. It was hard to get into at first, but I liked it and I'll be picking up the next one, definitely. The story: Darina's boyfriend dies in a knife fight, but Darina can't let him go. She continually catches glimpses of him, and finally finds him in a group of 'dead' kids -- all of whom have died in the past year in their small Colorado town -- and Darina is determined to help them find out what's going on. (YA mystery/paranormal)

P.S. Yes, we woke up to more snow today, just as the userpic suggests.
