Book Reports (99-100)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to Tattered Cover's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

Now You See Her, by Linda Howard ****+ This came out a while ago, but for some reason, I hadn't read it. I liked it -- it reminds me of why I started reading Linda Howard's books, in the first place (kind of a classic romantic suspense). The story: Sweeney is a painter whose style changed drastically right around the time she started seeing ghosts -- and now she's painting in her sleep. Unfortunately, the paintings are of murders. (adult, romantic suspense)

I Now Pronounce You Someone Else, by Erin McCahan ***** I LOVED this! I loved the voice, the story, the growth -- everything. It's one of those books where when I finished, my first thought was that every girl should read it. I wish it had been out when some of my students reached this age (17/18). It captures those dreams that so many of us have -- falling in love, being a part of a Couple, a new Family. And it shows so clearly how that only works if you already know yourself (and like yourself) -- just really well done. I laughed, I cried, I ached for her, I cheered. The story: Bronwen believes she must have been switched at birth, because there's no way her mom is her real mom. And her stepdad let her down years ago in such a way she may never trust him again. Enter Jared, the perfect boyfriend with the perfect family -- now if only Bronwen could find a way to join them. (YA contemporary, released in June, publisher: Arthur A. Levine/Scholastic)

Currently Reading: Palace Beautiful, by Sarah DeFord Williams
On Deck: Angel Star, by Jennifer Murgia; The Iron King, by Julie Kagawa; Linger, by Maggie Stiefvater -- and many more ;)
