Book Reports (117-118)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to Tattered Cover's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins ***+ Though I doubt I'll reread this and I'm not sure if I liked it ;) In some ways, it's a fitting conclusion to the trilogy; in others, for me, it veered too far from the projected path (from the other two books). The themes of violence and manipulation made it challenging to read in places, as well. The story: Katniss is thrown into the revolution now, and with Peeta under Snow's control, she's forced to rely on her own understanding of the events around her as their world devolves into a violent war. (upper YA dystopic, just released, publisher: Scholastic)

The Hollow, by Jessica Verday **** This is a pretty interesting look at the Legend of Sleepy Hollow from a contemporary point of view. I figured out what was going on pretty early on, but all the machinations behind it are still something of a mystery. Although Abbey seems really naive at first (when she just gloms onto Caspian, even though she doesn't know him at all), as the book goes on, she grew on me more and more. The story: Abbey's best friend died under mysterious circumstances, and Abbey is struggling to move on. At the same time, school is awful and she meets a guy who keeps blowing hot and cold -- and Abbey's starting to doubt her own sanity. (YA paranormal, released October/09, publisher: Simon Pulse) -- Book Two is just out, and I've got that and am excited to read it!

On Deck: Oh-so-many books...I just picked up four more from the library this morning, and I have another four waiting for me (just received in the mail over the past few days) -- I love all the choices :)
