d parrot

...DH leaves today for the annual guys' camping trip. Our weather is not that conducive to camping, so I hope it's an okay time for him (and he doesn't freeze his you-know-what off). I like having some time alone with the kiddos, I will admit. When he's gone, it makes for a relaxed setting, and we can just kind of veg and do whatever.

...we're in the midst of this strange weather pattern. It's cloudy and humid and not at all like CO normally is. It's cooler too, which is nice -- and I slept for 9 hours last night (almost unheard of). It was great! However, I'm starting to miss the sun (and my toes are cold, hehe).

...I will admit that I'm glad the kiddos will be constrained to school soon. Although I'm not anxious to lose the freedom of summer, their bickering has reached its height, and my patience (and DH's) has found its limit. *sigh* But we don't have many days left -- this weekend and Monday, really. Then they're going to Grand Lake for three nights (yay), and they don't return until Friday (when we have a meet and greet and school anyway). Plus, D's football practice starts next week (he's missing two of the four). Let's hope we're ready...

...I have a pile (actual pile) of papers to process for school sitting next to my desk. Not sure when I'll actually do it, however ;)

...I'm frustrated about math instruction at the kiddos' school. I don't understand how we (a general 'we', and sadly, not enough parents make up the 'we') can repeatedly bring the same concerns to the teachers and staff without having anything change! It's not even that complicated, and I'm glad that I'll be done with it after this year (E is fine in math -- she's right at status quo for her class). Of course, we've had three principals (and one interim principal) in the six years of D's schooling so far -- I know that has a lot to do with it! I really like our current principal (both as a principal and as a person), but I hope she doesn't give up on the math too. Last year being her first year, I didn't have huge expectations -- and perhaps I'm expecting too much for her second year. I really hoped she'd rise to the occasion and do something spectacular...but it doesn't appear as though she will. :( I will make sure things happen for D, but I'm concerned for the other kiddos who don't have that luxury.

...other than that, I'm pleased about the upcoming year. It will be crazy busy (as always), and I know it will go far too quickly. I so enjoy my kiddos, and I know that each day brings us closer to the day when they'll leave home...and I want to make the most of the time we have with them. :)

Any ramble-worthy thoughts in your neck of the woods?
