Book Report (106) and Friday Five...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact the I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2010 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to Tattered Cover's pages for the ARCs.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.

1. Little Blog on the Prairie, by Cathleen Davitt Bell ****+ This is a fun (although horrifying) book! Fun because the voice is authentic and very humorous -- horrifying because the thought of having to go through what Gen and her family go through makes me shudder. At the same time, it's a neat, neat story about family work and bonding -- with a sweet romance, to boot. The story: Gen's mom decides their family will spend the summer at an 1890s 'camp' where they will live with none of the conveniences (including electricity) of the current day. But Gen sneaks in her new cell phone and texts messages to her best friends at home -- one of whom begins a blog using those texts. (lower YA/tween, came out in May, publisher: Bloomsbury)

2. When I'm revising, I just don't have as much time to read...but I guess no one can do everything, right? (I miss reading, though.)

3. The kiddos and I are spending a few hours with one of my closest friends today -- she and her family live in the foothills/mountains, and we always enjoy going up there!

4. DH and I are hoping to steal my FIL's babysitting time this weekend so we can go see Inception -- I've heard so many cool things about it, and I want to experience it for myself!

5. My SIL and two of her kids are coming to town next weekend. They're the ones we visited over New Year's in OK. It's always fun to see them, even though they usually make us go to Casa Bonita (which, granted, is a fun place for kids -- where we took D for his b-day this year -- but the food SUCKS).

Happy weekend!
