* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- definitely will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite.
The Oracle of Dating, by Allison van Diepen ***** This is a fun read! I enjoyed it all the way through, and I liked Kayla's insights (and also how she struggled to follow her own wisdom when it was her love life). The story: Kayla has decided that boys in high school are too immature for her, so she's planning to wait until she's older for a boyfriend. In the meantime, she runs a website called 'The Oracle of Dating', sharing advice and insights for others -- and ends up meeting someone she truly wants. (YA romance, released this spring (I think), publisher: Harlequin Teen)
Only the Good Spy Young, by Ally Carter ***** It amazes me how I like each one of these better than the last -- and I loved the first one! This one is very good, with the mystery and spy stuff increasing nicely. The story: After surviving the last attempted kidnaping, now Cammie is stunned to learn that her favorite teacher is supposedly one of the 'bad guys' -- and she and her best friends work to undercover the truth, which is still related to her dad's death. (YA adventure, released July, publisher: Disney-Hyperion)
Carter's Big Break, by Brent Crawford ***** Okay, so I thought there was no way this would be as funny as the first one -- and it wasn't as constantly funny, it's true. However, I still spent a good portion of the book chuckling and even guffawing out loud at Carter's sarcastic and oh-so-boyish outlook on life. A very entertaining read! The story: Carter gets cast in the main role of a movie set in his home town, right after his girlfriend dumps him. He loves acting, but much of the stuff he experiences overwhelms him, and through it all, he continues to pine over Abby. (YA contemporary/humor, just released, publisher: Disney-Hyperion)
Currently Reading: The Hollow, by Jessica Verday; Lady Knight, by Tamora Pierce
