Book Reports (61-62)...

For those of you who happened to Google your title and ended up here, please know that one star is not a bad thing in Robin's world -- just the fact that I picked up your book and started it means that somewhere it's getting good buzz (or that your blurb was really cool). 'R' means it's a re-read. Different colored font means it's an ARC for 2011 (and I'll try to remember to put the month it's released, as well). I'm linking to Tattered Cover's pages for the ARCs.

If you'd like to see my year-to-date four-plus- and five-star recommendations, visit Robin ReadsnWrites.

* I didn't make it beyond the first 20 pages.
** I made it to the end, but I either skimmed or skipped large sections.
*** I might have skipped/skimmed, but I liked it and might read it again.
**** I read at least 95% of the book and it was good -- probably will be reread.
***** I read every word, and I loved it! A favorite and definite reread.

Gemini Bites, by Patrick Ryan ***+ I enjoyed this. I really liked Kyle, and although I usually love multi-POV (or dual, in this case), Judy annoyed me for most of the book, so it was a little harder to get into. However, Kyle did go a long way to make up for her -- and he really is a great character :) The story: Kyle and Judy (twins) are both looking for love, but Judy pretends to be something (or someone) she isn't. And Kyle's love interest appears to be doing the same, to Kyle's frustration...dealing with his sister and his wanna-be boyfriend are a constant trial. (YA contemporary, GLBT, released 5/11, publisher: Scholastic)

City of Fallen Angels, by Cassandra Clare **** I definitely liked this fourth installment in the Mortal Instruments series -- mostly because it was from Simon's POV, and I like Simon! I also like the new character only complaint (which is simply a personal taste thing) is the continuing angst with Jace. I like Jace, and I really like his romance with Clary, but my gosh, he's so angsty! The book ends on a major cliffhanger (no surprise there), so I guess I'll be picking up the next one too ;) The story: Simon is learning to live with the Mark of Cain, along with dealing with being a vampire. He's also dating two girls -- and although everyone around him, including his new roommate (Jordan), keeps telling him to pick one, he puts it off until they both find out. In the meantime, Clary and Jace are once again having issues, though Jace won't tell Clary what they are -- and Clary's also dealing with some kind of demon baby factory...and when she and Jace discover who the demon is, they also see the return of someone they'd hoped was dead and gone. (YA urban fantasy, released 4/11, publisher: McElderry Books)

Currently Reading: nothing...but I will be soon.
On Deck: one of my ARCs...haven't decided which yet -- and yeah, I'm reading so few books compared to last year. I need to get with it!
