Five on Friday...

1. Usually two or three mornings a week, I walk with my friend and her dog. We drop our kiddos off at the bus stop and then hit the 'loop' which circles the bottom of the park. I'm not really a dog person, but I've gotten to know a lot of dogs through this -- and as long as I don't have to take them home, they're fine. ;) The best part has been meeting new people from our neighborhood, people I normally wouldn't meet (most don't have kids).

2. Even though it's only March 1st, parents around me are starting to plan their summers. Of course, we're not much for plans -- we like to keep things open and unscheduled, and it never fails to surprise me how different we are from most people I know in this way. Many of my friends already have their kiddos signed up for various camps and activities...and we, of course, have not. E wants to do a karate camp, which we'll probably sign her up for. Beyond that, I think we'll keep the summer open for whatever comes our way (and camping, of course).

3. March also means testing in schools. I'm not a fan, but I've long since given up thinking there's anything that I personally can do about it. Starting Monday, both kids will have tests daily for two full weeks. It consumes their days, and I feel for the teachers (most of whom hate it as much as the parents do). *sigh*

4. One of my best friends is taking this weekend (including today) to go and sit on the beach and just read and soak up the sun...I will admit to a hint of envy. I'd love to get away from everything for a while -- but it's rarely possible, no?

5. It's supposed to be quite spring like this weekend. There's enough snow on the ground to inhibit too many spring-like activities, though...still, it'll be nice to have a warmer hint in the air, right?

Happy March 1st!
